Well, I have been experimenting with a new application called iWeb from the iLife suite from Apple. I really love the creativity it allows me and have decided to go in that direction. I haven't unveiled the address yet because I was hoping to have my own domain setup however I'm having difficulty with that. Please bear with me as I figure out how to work the darn thing! LOL! Here is the temporary address where I will be posting my blog, photo albums, and a video page. This way everything will be contained in one website. I will still have my Picassa albums where I will be storing my photos, but you can view them also in my new website. I will let everyone know when I have figured out how to work my domain. For future reference it will be www.katverse.com. Till then please go to the following website to view my new re-vamped location and let me know how you like it!

http://web.me.com/khaberlack5

I look forward to hearing feedback on the new site. She loves twiddling them and sticking them in her mouth and drooling on them, it's really quite cute. Then she will stare at them for a while. She's like mommy....amused by simple things.

It really is sweet seeing a baby discover these things and so amazing how they are so amazed by it all. Such innocence! Imagine if they had more than two arms! The possibilities are endless I tell you! Anyway, during last nights fussy time, she had a nice peaceful few moments where she was playing with daddy. She played and talked and was having a grand old time. We cherish those happy moments which unfortunatley are followed by the fussy time. Ha ha ha! I feel for her, she had a rough day with going to the docky and everything. Then she got dragged around the craft store...such a horrid life! :)

Before the evening set in though, Kaitlyn and I had a lovely time outside. Well, I had a lovely time, she slept most of the time and nursed while I read and got bit by mosquitoes on my face. It was gorgeous out though. Hopefully it will get a tad cooler so the mosquitoes will go away! I have seen her improve her neck stability so I decided to try the little Bumbo Chair I got at a consignment store (it even came with a little tray!). She's getting better and I thought I'd share some pictures with you. Can't wait for them to see her! It will be very exciting! They aren't picture people (like Skip) but I will try to snap some for everyone to see! Word is that we are going to New Orleans this weekend since Diane has never been. Hopefully I can have my beignets at Cafe Du Mond. Thats all I want!

Well..that is all for today..got lots on the agenda! We ventured up to Tombal at Matt Farm and Orchard Harvest Festival. It was very peaceful up there and although the sun was hiding behind the clouds, many of us thought it was the perfect fall weather! There they had a nice little play area with swings, slides, a campfire, tetherball, volleyball, they had persimon trees, tangerines and pumpkins. We got to pick our little pumpkins from the little bale of hay in the entrance and as you can see from the picture above, we took the ones we sat next to. While we were at this farm, we also got to take a scenic hayride toure of the property. Nestled between pines and lily pad ponds was a nice little farm with different trees for fruit picking. There were also little hidden surprises like a bale of hay shaped like a caterpilar and "Boot Hill". Very cute! We were a nice group that went and I even got to take Skip along kicking and screaming. LOL! He bonded with Amy's husband Craig so it was nice to see him with other dads.

Since it was our first time there, we know for next time to bring hotdogs for roasting and some smores to cook over the open fire they had. Hopefully next year Kaitlyn will actually be able to enjoy the farm and run around and play with the pumpkins. I bet she will love the hayride more too although she seemed quite content with the bumpy ride. Here are a few pictures of the day we had there. You can see all the pictures in my Picassa album.

So much to say....so little time to blog!

He he he...

Hello everyone! So, as you know I have been having a hard time with my uploading of new pics for this week. But I do have some nice stories to share...so you can all enjoy those! This week has been just a whirlwind! I will start with some events that happened last week since the last blog.

I went to my first Organic Co-op on Wednesday and met with some of my mom friends from Peaceful Beginings. Here they supplied fresh fruits and veggies from organic growers. You would purchase shares and then pick them up the following week. They had the most beautiful Eggplants you would not believe! Here is their website: Southeast Organic Co-op. So this week I was able to pick up my small share of mixed items (fruit and veggies) and my share of fruit. This is what I got in the end:A very nice little spread I think. I was so excited that I right away got to cooking. I got in that little bunch some green onions, acorn squash, apples, pears, nectarines, juicing oranges, sweet potato, avocado, cherry tomatoes, grapes, and romaine lettuce. I wanted some soup so I used the acorn squash and added potatoes and carrots to the mix and made a spectacular creamy soup to die for. So yummy and comforting! I also made some delicious juice...soooo goood! Anyway, can't wait to see what they have next week!

This week I also was able to enjoy the joys of my Level One Aromatherapy Certification! Woo hoo! It was taught by my friend's mom Meg at her place where she runs her business. It's called Gritman (Here is the website: Gritman Essential Oils). Because I will be working with Aromatherapy and essential oils they suggested I take this class with them. Of course it was simply wonderful and I learned soooo much! It's amazing just how complex essential oils are and just HOW MUCH they can do and benefit your every day lifestyle. Just think how good you feel when you smell lavender...or peppermint...Well not only does it involve your sense of smell but can also affect you in all of your senses not to mention their healing qualities for both physical and mental ailments! It's just incredible! I'm really excited to start working with Amy. More details to come in the future about that. I'm still working on a name and logo for my part of the business so you will all have to wait to see what comes of that! LOL!

Over the weekend was Tatiana's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TATI! LOL! Alex and some friends and I planned a surprise party for her at Texas Roadhouse on Saturday. While I was supposed to go, I got stuck in some nasty nasty traffic that made Kat get road rage and loose her temper and go back home. I did hear that she had a lot of fun and was super excited which made me feel so better yet still sad that I couldn't be there. :( Sad Kat. Meow...whimper whimper. Now she is in the 30s club. Hee, hee! We will rule the world!

I was calmed down during the weekend though since we got to hang out with our friends too. On Saturday night my temper tantrum was subsided by Theresas wonderful cooking and game playing! We got together with another very nice Coast Guard family with all our kiddies. We played this awesome board game Cranium. My goodness that was a lot of fun. So fun that we immediatley set another date to meet again. So...this Sunday I am going to be hosting the next game night. Finally we found some friends to play board games with! I'm telling you, it's not as fun with just two people! Ha, ha! On Sunday we also were delighted with great company at Christine and Wedge's house. They had a scrumptious BBQ and I got to meet even more coastie families. Guess you could say it was an Aromatheraputic Coastie Weekend! By Monday morning though...I was so tuckerd out from everything that I was a bit sick with allergies or something. But I recovered well. (Thanks to some mighty fine Eucalyptus oil!). And there is Christine and Kaitlyn (and Connor's hands doing bunny ears, he he...)

Going back to Kat's working situation...aside from doing the whole Aromatherapy thing I'm also looking to sell things that I make homemade that relate to natural living and what not. I've been looking online and with my friends and some of them sell hommemade products like breast pads, femenine cloth products, cloth diapers, and other eco friendly handmade products. So I dabbled in this and started taking sewing lessons from a friend in our Peaceful Beginings group. She is teaching us how to sew! I know a little bit already but in the first class we had yesterday I learned so much! Next week we are doing a field trip to the fabric store. At any rate Here are two samples of what I've made..(Guys don't be all immature about what I've sewn OK? Yes..they are feminine products...deal with it! Ha, ha ha!)

Anyway, I'm proud of my little wonky products. Here you see a set of Breast Pads for nursing mommies and next to that are three examples of cloth pantyliners. I can say taht they are friggin comfortable and just so very cute! Much nicer than some stupid plastic "cotton" imitating thing that clog up our landfills. But I digress.......;)

Kaitlyn also enjoyed a very fun first! Her very first official PLAYDATE!! Got together with Amy and Ava, Kim and Ethan and Kim's cousin-in-law and her daughter Jordan. Here are some pictures. It was so nice. Yes, Kaitlyn was asleep for most of it, but during the time she was up, I think she was happy to see other babies. Kim made some delicious Banana muffins and Amy brought some very yummy sandwiches! I brought the oh so un-nutritious yet satisfyingly good white chocolate chip cookies. :) You have to balance all that healthy stuff you know! LOL!
In the pictures we have...Ethan and Ava (with Kim watching) in the first photo. Then we have my kid...sleeping as usual....below that is sweet sweet Jordan, and the creme de la creme picture (by yours truly) is little miss Ava!

So there is so much more to say, but I have to go get ready for our excursion today to Matt's Farm and Orchard. Our Peacefull Beginings group (the mommy group) is going to this orchard where there is a little fall festival and hayride reserved for us. Very cool and exciting! Can't wait to take some pictures with little Kaitlyn. Everyone keeps telling me nobody ever sees me with my daughter...well duh...I'm taking the pictures! Ha! Hopefully I can get some Kat face in there too with Kaitlyn. grooooooowing! There was one nurse she really, really had fun with. She was smiling and cooing. And when our doctor came in to check up on her, I got a nice lap full of pee. It was....GREAT. (note the sarcasm) He, he, he. Of course she wasn't too thrilled about the shot part, but who is. At least I have the comfort of knowing that she won't be getting a zillion shots at once since I'm doing an alternative spaced out schedule. Anyway, I still don't like knowing I'm putting this stuff in my kid.

Over the weekend we had a lot of fun. I took Kaitlyn to the B.I.R.T.H(Bringing Information and Resources to Houston) fair that is held every October which has talks, vendors, domonstrations about pregnancy, birth, parenting, etc. My friend Amy was a speaker and she talked about the benefits of using essential oils during pregnancy and beyond. It was really great! There were also lot's of vendors for things such as Birth Centers, babywearing, cloth diapering, photography, etc. I learned a lot there. Here is a link to the B.I.R.T.H. website if you want to take a look at the organization. It's really a great place for information on parenting and pregnancy in general, you don't have to live in Houston to see the get great information. I went to a few other speakers as well. I was in the "Breastfeeding secrets" talk and "Nutrition" talk. I also got to try different babywearing slings and loved the Mei Tai. I had tried it before but with a doll...it's very different when you have a live baby. Ha, ha! I love my ring sling, but the Mei Tai is great too! Here is a picture of one: (I have no idea who the lady is...I just put that there to show you what it looks like). It's inspired by Chinese carriers worn by women over centuries. It's great! Here are some pictures from the fair:

First we have Amy Laura teaching about essential oils during pregnancy, birth and beyond; then we have her daughter Ava watching on adoringly, followed by Kelly modeling some pregnancy clothes; Asher showing of all his colors; and a little girl modeling a very cute cloth diaper.

In this foto above we see the booth held by Amy and her family for Gritman Essential Oils. Her mom is standing with the pink shirt and Amy of course is nursing sweet Ava. You can see other vendors in the background. It trully was a cool event!

Sunday was really nice too because I returned to my walking group for the first time since the birth and it felt so good! We went walking in the historic area of League City which has really neat older houses mixed with newer ones and beautiful oak trees which many survived the Hurricane. After the walk we were lucky to be able to take a peek at the Oak Tree Festival held in the town square. Little miss Kaitlyn enjoyed the walk in her own little way....asleep in the stroller! After the walk though we hung out at home and here is a cute little video of her in the bath:

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v13.nonxt1.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dc8d7ac23d0388c04%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1330302872%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D559CDC96BC48F77E5D08127C5B5386C1DD24E32B.786BC974101A5949CDDA0397DB5E32CFB97C2E3%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dc8d7ac23d0388c04%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DsVffh6qRD2STRtPEp9zC0T8nSiw&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

She really really likes baths. Luckily she didn't get fussy after the bath like she usually does when I take her out of water. The kid is a mermaid, like I was and will be once the pool is clean again. I just love this picture of her in the bath...don't you think it's sexy yet tasteful? You should see her face when I put her in the water. It's says: "Thank you Mommy for putting me in this delighful warm bubbly water that is so soothing and invigorating!". She is also grateful that I do not put her in the dishwasher after I'm done rinsing her! Hee, hee! Anyway, the kid loves baths...hopefully this trend will continue!

Today I actually got to go see Jackie Griggs (my midwife) for my followup! It was so nice seeing her at the B.I.R.T.H. fair but then to also see her at the Birth Center today. We did the un-fun pap smear and other checkups and drew some blood to see how my iron is doing. Hopefully everything is in tip top shape. We also weighed Kaitlyn there although she had her clothes on she was a little heavier there. Still doing really great Jackie said! I know this won't be the last I see of Jackie and Camelia since I will be attending the Mother group and hopefully catch the LLL meeting that is also held there! Here is a picture of Kaitlyn with Jackie and Camelia. They did such a great job! If I get pregnant again before leaving Texas I will be going back there again! Not only did they deliver my baby but they saved my life too!

Well, that is all for now! Let's see what other adventures we get into by next week! It's going to be a busy week! So far it has proven to be so! I have some neat groups set up this week that I will be attending and then over the weekend I will be visiting Tatiana for her birthday and also attending an Aromatherapy Certification class. By next week I will know soooo much about Aromatherapy! And that is just for Level 1, November I take Level 2! Wish me luck! I'm super excited, but that will have to be another blog! I promised this would get out on Tuesday and by Joe...I have done this before midnight!

Everyone take care and a special shout out this week to Stephanie Shoemake and her family:

Welcome to the world Sadie and Summer Shoemake
Born Monday, October 6th

Check out their blog, the link is on this page!!!!
Bye!

Our lives past Ike

Well...things are slowing down and I can get to the computer again.

Here is a summary of what went down during Ike. (Ha! What went down....sigh...)

THE EVACUATION

So I evacuated with Kaitlyn, Jack, and Mya on the 11th and headed to Tatiana's house in College Station. Total time with breasfeeding breaks, potty breaks, and food it took me 6 hours. Normally it takes 2 hours but I'm telling you, this was GREAT timing compared to the evacuation during Hurricane Rita! (Need I remind you that was 24 friggin hours?) So, yeah 6 hours is nothing! Plus I wasn't stuck in bumper to bumper traffic which was such a nice thing! I spent a lovely time at Tatiana's house as she is a very gracious, generous, and fun host to be with. I even made a few new friends (Hi there Stephanie! YOu better have those kids soon!) She's having twins for those who don't know. And she is Tatiana's neighbor. We spent many days together doing little playdates, goign to garage sales on the weekends, looking at really nice expensive houses for fun, watching the Daily Show and The Colbert Report which are very addicting. We also had lots of fun laughing at the people on the show Wipeout! Drek was sooooo great with Kaitlyn. He would bring her toys and food. Actually when we came back he actually put bread in her mouth to which she was confused about but ended up licking her lips for a few minutes. It was very cute. :)

During this time of course I was a nervous wreck in my head. I was freaked out because of all the crazy pictures of all the destrction Ike did and was worried and convinced there was a tree in my bedroom. My worries were put to rest because I have such awesome friends. My friend Theresa's in-laws came to my house and did a great job taking pictures which put my mind to ease in many many ways! Then another friend of mine came by my house to see if I had electricity (which at the time, I didn't). Unbeknownst to me, Coast Guard people also came by the house and asked the neighbors stuff. Who knew so many people were so awesome? So, I stayed at Tati's house for over a week and came back Sunday (The 21st).

THE COMEBACK:

With my little army in tow (Alex, Tatiana, and Derek) we came back to my place and assessed the damage. It really wans't too too bad but clearly there was a LOT to clean up. Luckily there were many people driving the streets looking for work. A group of gardner/landscapers from Dallas came down and helped me trim my trees since many of them had branches that were hanging by a thread. I was very happy they stopped by. Right now I have the largest pile of tree limbs and debris on the block...it's embarassing! I've been crazyily busy trying to get everything in order and I think now is the first time I've sat down really and relaxed to let you all know my adventures. I'm working on the pictures right now but apparently I had a TON that I hadn't downloaded so it's taking a while.

I also have a new fridge my friend sold me that I have been using while I waited for garbage day to throw things out of the old fridge. Now I have a back up...Yay! So at any rate my fridge is nice and organized now which makes me happy and I can find things. Very exciting.

Now...for more pressing issues. SKIP IS BACK! Yes he has finally returned. He got to come home a few days early (of course not early enough in my opinion) after a long and pointless adventure out at sea. Us spouses and girlfriends all greeted them on Monday when they were bussed to a nearby hotel. (Many of the crew on the boat are pretty much homeless since most of them lived in Galveston) It was great. I felt like an idiot but I was crying when I saw him. And then he held Kaitlyn and I was mush. It's been nice having him back and exciting to see him with Kaitlyn even though he still holds her like she's gonna break. LOL! I'm so over that!

Well...that is all for now. I think I'm going to take a walk with Kaitlyn and Skip. It's a nice day out and not too hot. :)

Hope all is going well for everyone else. I will try to follow up with everyone this week. Sorry bout that, it's been hectic!

Till next time!
Kat

Chapter 5: Skip Haberlack Escapes from Guantanamo Bay!

Everyone has been asking...Where is Skip in all these events? Well...he got two weeks off to spend with us after Kaitlyn was born, but then he had to meet with his boat to continue their patrol. Seems easy enough right? Well, you are greatly mistaken! Fools!

So, the plan was that he was to fly to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and meet the boat the next day. So, he gets up the next morning after arriving and hours pass, but there is no boat! The day passes and still no boat. Nobody knows where they are. So Skip has been calling me and through me I've been sending his boss emails to let them know whats going on. Well this goes on for a few days....and days and days. Of course now everyone is mad because he could be here with us and celebrating my birthday! LOL! Eventually we heard back from his boss saying that they were NOT going to Guantanamo after all....

Long story short, after a few days he was flown to Miami, Florida so he could then later catch a plane to Colombia to meet with them. Mind you this was during the whole Ike forming and pounding the Caribbean time. So of course I was nervous. He did finally catch up with his boat. All was well, except for Skip because apparently his sub did absolutely nothing and Skip had to catch up on work that was not done and things that were done, but done wrong. (Control issue you say?) Hee hee.

You guys know the rest of the story actually. Ike pounded us, then eventually Skip got to come home. :)

Chapter 4: 30 is Flirty

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

Yes, it passed already, but it's still August and today is the last day I have to celebrate! I mean you only turn 30 once!

It was a very nice birthday too. I had a BBQ very nicely prepared by my parents. I was sad that Skip wasn't there to celebrate with me, but when he comes back I'm sure we can figure something out. Anyway, I had some of my friends come and celebrate with me and we had a very nice relaxing time. Some of my friends brought their kids which made me really happy since they got to really enjoy the pool! It was so neat seeing them since it reminded me of when I was that age and gosh...I LOVED swimming and having fun like that! Some of my friends that came I hadn't seen in a really long time so it was a double treat since they got to meet Kaitlyn as well. So very nice!

Anyway, then we got a great show from my friend René's daughter Michelle. She is five years old and has the best imagination! I tell you she is the smartest kid and so very entertaining. It was a special treat since they stayed over and Michelle gave us a second showing of her fun thoughts. She even sang for us! I'm going to steal that kid when René isn't looking. Watch out René! Ha, ha, ha!

So all in all I had a really great day and couldn't ask for anything more. Ok, well probably to have Skip there celebrating with us, but he was stuck in Cuba at that moment. I did make a really cool birthday wish and I think so far it's working out! I'm really excited that my wish is finally coming true! I would tell...but then I don't want to jinx it! I got the best present early though...I got Kaitlyn. I think that was the best present I could ever have asked for! Ok, Ok...I will stop gushing about her...I'm sure you are all tired of my sappyness, but she's just such a great kid!

Well, that was Chapter 4. What could come next you say? Well Chapter 5: Skip Haberlack Escapes from Guantanamo Bay!

Hurricane Shmermicane....right? Thank goodness that we don't have to go and evacuate. That makes me feel a lot better since I don't have Skip here and although it's Mom and me, it would be difficult to have done everything to make sure the house was fine with just the two of us. I'm also very relieved that we don't have to drive away! LOL...I just keep thinking of the time we had to drive to my friend Tatiana's house during before Hurricane Rita. I don't' think it would have been much fun if it was the same commute with a kid, two pets, and a Mom. Ha, ha, ha

So...anyway, I think we will be fine here in Houston. It will most likely be rainy and windy, but nothing like it could have been, thank goodness! And I think that if it were heading to us, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy my friend's baby's Christening today. It was really cool! I will have to put up pictures once I upload them. It was so much better than your traditional christening. It felt so much more real and heartfelt. But this is my opinion. I'm sure traditional works for some people, but I love my friend Amy's approach.

Well...it's time to eat some dinner so I shall go now and hopefully continue the chapters now that this intermission is coming to an end.

Take care everyone! This year it is no exception. Looks like we will be getting a nice dose of storms in the next few weeks and although it's still early to tell if this year will be a repeat of a few years ago it sure feels like it. For those of you who don't know, three years ago after hurricane Katrina hit, we (Texas) got slammed with Hurricane Rita. While the storm turned out not to be as bad as it could have been, the true adventure was the 24 hour trip to my friend Tatiana's house. This was known as "The Rita Exodus". Mind you it takes 2 hours to get to her house under normal situations. Take me out to lunch and I will have to tell you about that sweet adventure. :p Let me just say, that I HOPE it's not the same situation again!

So...what does Mother Nature have in store for us this time around? Well, it looks like a double dose of storms starting with Hurricane Gustav (I call it Gus for short) and the still uncertain Tropical Storm Hanna (no relation to Hannah Montana). Our main focus for now is Hurricane Gustav. It has spiraled and danced around the Caribbean and is now looking like it's making a nice beeline trip towards Louisiana. The "Cone of Uncertainty" has the possiblity of it landing between Texas and Florida so we are all on alert. The real pain with this storm is that we've been watching it for so dang long! Ha! When it became an official storm it was moving slower than molasses at 5 mph. Now I guess since it has more steam, it's moving faster like a little locomotive. Choo choo!

If it hits Lousisiana, I really feel bad for them. They are in no position to bear another storm since they aren't even recovered from Katrina. The thing is that someone has to get the brunt of it, and sadly anywhere it hits is going to be a disaster area and like any human in the world, I hope it's not where we are. While there are two active storms in the Caribbean, there are also a few developing in the Atlantic off the coast of the Hurricane Factory (aka Africa). I guess people are going to start paying attention to Al Gore now since he's probably going to say that this crazy weather is due to Global Warming. Makes sense though. The ocean is jacked up and warmer than it used to be. Guess people will rethink using that bottle of water and plastic bag at the supermarket now.

So...for the second time this month we are on watch again. Luckily this time I don't have to worry about having a kid again! Ha! I leave that to any other mother who is due! Have fun with that! What I do know is that the weather is going to be really crappy next week and that I won't be able to go into the pool. :( All storm and no swim make Kat a sad girl. He, he.

Well..that is my news brief for now.

We will now continue with your program which is now in progress.....

Chapter 3: Visitors check in and out of Chateou di Haberlack

With a baby you get the normal rush of people pouring in to see the little bundle of joy. This is always quite normal. I got my little rush and it was very nice. Lot's of ohhh's and aaaah's and LOT'S of...wow...she looks like Skip. :)

It did take a while for the people to pour in. Mostly because I was out of service for a while, but I think this gave us all at Chateou di Haberlack some much needed bonding time with our daughter before everyone else came to see her. Among the visitors were the very happy grandparents.

Skip's mom Linith came all the way from Kalifornia just for the occasion. This was neat because it was Kaityn's first visit to a restaurant. And because we own stock in it (Buffalo Wild Wings by the way is where we went), then it made it all the more special. :) Nothing like a little American food to set off Kaitlyn's little life, don't you think?

Grandma Lin had lot's to show Kaitlyn too. I have to take a picture of it, but it's really awesome. I've been wanting one of these since i saw her page when she came for the baby shower. She and Mike (her boyfriend) have this really great business where they polish and create gorgeous pieces with rocks you and I would never have thought could be transformed into what they are after they are done with them! If you want to take a look at some of the ones she's done, she has a photostream on Flickr. Here is the link: Linsgemsandjewlery

Lin and Mom weren't the only grandparents though! Dad came too! Of course he was such a proud grandpa! Always in love with his little granddaughters, Kaitlyn was no exception. Kaitlyn learned all about Japanese food with Dad since we went out for lunch when he came. (Yes, there is a theme here with grandparents and going out to eat!) Of course, Kaitlyn didn't pay much attention and decided to sleep through the whole ordeal. But we had some good food which she enjoyed later via Boobjuice. Here are a few neat pictures of Katilyn and Dad:

So as you can see...little K is loved by all! While it was great, it also was kinda scary. Especially for those around me. Apparently I like to have people on their toes because the drama continued....

Around a week and a half into Kaitlyn's beautiful time here on Earth, I had been struggling with the whole breastfeeding thing. It's painful and I was in much pain and going through much frustration and sadness because I wanted to breastfeed her so badly. One night...or I should say morning since it was after midnight, I felt like I was coming down with something. I had body pains through the day but didn't think too much of it. That night I got the worst chills I had ever had in my life. Skip tried to warm me up with his body heat which usually works, but I just kept shivering uncontrollably. I thought, maybe if I take a warm shower that would help. I could hardly stand at that point and I had to then lie down in the tub as the hot water hit me. Things got worse from there. The tub slowly filled with water and I was still shaking, could hardly breathe and had horrible body pain. My boobs hurt and I didn't want to be touched. Skip woke Mom and I started to sorta pass out again. We called Jackie and she suggested we call an ambulance.

In come the Paramedics (and a fire truck...and my neighbors appeared outside...how embarassing). They took me into the ambulance (One of them was called Reese....can you believe that???), and drove me to the hospital. They (and Mom) kept saying that I was having an anxiety attack. They shut up about that when I reached the hospital and they took my temperature which was 103 F. Guess that was out of the question. Ha!

I was poked and proded...x-rayed, cathetered, and frozen some more. In the end it turned out that I was suffering from Mastitis. That is an infection in the boob for those who don't know. It's painful and a pain in the ass. They also told me my hemoglobin was on the floor (big surprise there doc....I lost a ton of blood a few days back!) He he!

Luckily this wasn't a long stay at the hospital. Just a few hours. I was a mess though. The next few days were blurry since I still had a high fever. I basically was once more...bed ridden and asleep most of the time. And the worst part was that I still had a hard time breastfeeding! So I pumped most of the time. Don't worry..there is a light at the end of the tunnel....but that's another chapter!

This is why lot's of you haven't heard from me latley. I've just been trying to concentrate on getting better and getting to know Kaitlyn and feeding, caring, discovering new things about her. I guess you could say, I'm nesting. So please be patient, I will come around. :) I miss my groups and socializing, but right now my focus is my daughter and what a treasure she is.

With that said...I will bring you into the next chapter....

Visitors check in and out of Chateou di Haberlack

I'm BAAAACK!! Chapter 1

Hello everyone!

Your favorite blogger is back from hiatus! I was thinking about how I was going to take on telling everyone my story. I think that what I will do is make little Chapters...Before I start though, I would like to point out two very important things...Ok Three:

My kid is awesome

I'm 30

Heroes Season 2 DVD comes out today

Take those into any order you would like. I know that the responsible thing is to put the kid first...although secretly I've been waiting for my DVD before she came. Ha ha ha! Calm down people, this does not make me a bad Mom! Anyway...I will do this Chronologically with the most interesting news first of course.

The Birth of Kaitlyn

Ok, so as many of you know, she was born. By now you should all know that at least! What some of you might not know...is the story behind the birth! So I will make it as painless and entertaining as possible.

My contractions started at midnight on August 5th. Yes I was due the 4th, but apparently that storm (Edouard) brought it's low pressure which has been rumored to bring babies. I still think that it was Skip's Grandpa that brought Kaitlyn. Contractions....not too fun, but they are a piece of cake compared to hurling a kid out your wahoo....so keep that in mind. This all happened pretty fast because by 6:30 I was at the birth center with my midwife Jackie and a few minutes after that I was happily in the tub with some nice water. Let me tell you, being in that water was a godsend. (PS. Godsend is what that symbol in Heroes means....but I digress.) As soon as I hit the water I felt a zillion times better. Then I pushed and felt lot's of not so fun things but in the end little Kaitlyn came out at 8:10 am! The feeling of the best poop in the world doesn't even come close to the relief I felt. Apparently it was winter time in my body because Kaitlyn decided to wrap the cord around her neck for warmth 3 times. Perhaps I should have made her some mittens and booties. LOL.

So the fun did not end there! Skip got to cut the cord after a while and you would think..oh great, the Placenta will come out next. Well...it didn't. It actually took a while and then with it came the hemorrhaging. Good thing I was in the tub huh? Yeah...so I passed out a few times and got some delicious oxygen so I could breathe again and some shots of Pitocin to stop the bleeding. Let's just say that I passed out quite a few times...some in the tub...some in the bed. It was fun. I also got to drink what felt like a whole keg of Gatorade, Water and Juice. I was doing all I could to avoid the hospital though...so I chugged like an undergrad.

All is not lost...I regained my color, my consciousness, and a little bit of strength. And just in time for some stitches too! Ha! After that I got to go home and rest in my own bed. It was so nice. Lot's of people say it was like a Drive thru birth. Get there at 6:30 am and leave at 3 pm. I thought it was perfect. OK...not the drama part, but everything else. My birth team was awesome. I had Mom and Skip, Jackie and Camilia (my midwives). They were awesome. And Mom was such a trooper! She did not pass out from seeing all the blood and THAT is a feat I will never forget. She hates blood....

Anyway, as you all also know. Mom is our official photographer and you can see her pictures at the following link:

Grandma's Photo Album

So that is really the end to that chapter. I was on bedrest for a few days....walked like a duck for a week....lot's of fun! I'm more anemic than before so I'm all tired all the time. Joy! But I love my daughter and she was well worth it!

Next chapter....Adventures in the ER....

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://khaberlack.blogspot.com/2008/08/im-baaaack-chapter-1.html' title='I'm BAAAACK!! I think though that perhaps this means that a baby will come during the hurricane (Tropical Storm Edouard isn't a hurricane yet, however it's expected to become one by Tuesday, which is enough for me). I seem to be "lucky" this way. Ha, ha, ha! I thought for sure she would be here since I had a few signs of labor on Saturday but apparently that was just to get me excited and all that has gone away. :) I'm doing well though. Mom and I are going to hunt for provisions this morning once she wakes up. We figured lot's of people don't know the storm is on it's way since it just kind of formed yesterday, and that was a Sunday. The only reason we found out was because Skip's boat is leaving tomorrow so they gave him a call. Thank goodness he does NOT have to go! I would be beyond pissed if he did, I mean wouldn't you?

I find it all to be so very ironic. Skip's late grandpa's name was Edward...and this hurricane-to-be's name is Edouard. I think this is a sign. I think perhaps his grandpa is bringing Kaitlyn to us! I think that would be sweet although I need to call my midwife to see what happens in situations like this. The latest projected path has the hurricane going directly over the town where the Birth Center is. Another sign? Who knows? Oh wait, there is another sign....this past Friday, I had to go to the Coast Guard base to get training and whatnot on what to do in case of this situation. It's quite eerie how that just happened to coincide with the storm. Hmmm...Take it as you will...I think these are all signs that Kaitlyn is coming. :) Or it could be a fluke and she can be here next week. But at least I now have a nice story to tell.

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that we are all fine here in Texas. We don't' plan to go anywhere during this storm since we doubt it will turn into a Category 3 which is when it's mandatory to evacuate for my town. It seems to be moving quite fast so who knows, maybe it won't be so bad. The pool as usual needs water anyway. Not to mention saving on watering the grass! I try to look at the bright side of things. Perhaps I should put a wind turbine on my roof now and store up some energy so I can power my house for a year! That would be using earth wisely.

Hope you are all safe in your neck of the woods! For those who live with me in Houston, go get ready! (Vincent, this will be your first hurricane as a married man! Awwww!)

Robyn, here is a special shout out to you if I don't get to talk to you on Tuesday: HAPPY FRIGGIN 30TH BIRTHDAYYYY! It was loads of fun and we had some pretty funny moments. Our plan was to drive out to S.A. after half a day of grueling work (LOL!), and relax in the hotel. Then Saturday hit Sea World and Sunday do the Riverwalk and take the obligatory Alamo picture; we already did the tour a few years ago and pretty much thought.....it probably hasn't changed since then! Ha, ha, ha!So after Skip tried dragging me out of work we were on the road. It takes about 3.5 hours or so to get to San Anton so eventually of course I had to stop and take a bio break. Of course, on the way we were tempted many times to stop at this one of a kind, super duper, beef jerky supplied, clean bathroom claiming, food bearing, rest stop mecca called Buc-ces. (See picture below). Mind you, that this place has advertising way in Louisiana so of course I had to stop here to see what all the fuss was about. It was great! At the pump where we got some golden gasoline there was nice clean water to wash your windows, antibacterial gel to clean your hands after pumping. Inside it was a whirlwind of things to see. They had the tourist attraction of overpriced items with Texas and whatnot on it, they had a huge counter with Beef Jerky of all kinds, pastries, regular munchies food, FUDGE, etc. They also had the usual pit stop fare such as drinks, slushees, chips blah, blah, blah stuff. But the bathrooms were what sold me. At each stall just outside the door of your private little cubicle, there was more hand sanitizer. Inside there were wipes to clean your seat and very nice tiled walls. (Again, please see below) So I was very happy and so was my bum. Skip and I got our goodies (some Bambi and Elk jerky, Fudge, and slushees), and we were back on the road to San Antonio.

So, we get to San Antonio and settle into our hotel. Now...we've seen sevaral BBQ places on our way here and this being T

exas...well...it got our mouth watering. Luckily right in the same block there was a BBQ place. Our first warning should have been the "Drive thru". We've had not so great experiences with BBQ places with this feature, however, we simply brushed it off and went in. Our second warning should have been the look of the place. We again, dismissed this as just the way it is and that usually these kinds of places probably have good BBQ as one would assume that a Mexican truck on the road has great Mexican food. Third and last warning was the look of the food....not quite that appetizing to look at. Again...blindly we dismissed th

is. Needless to say, we went back to the room and proceeded to go to Walgreens to purchase some snacks to finish filling us up. :)

The next day we went to Sea World nice and early. Got our free passes and had a great time. Sadly in my state of renting my uterus, I was not really allowed to go on any rides, therefore we spent most of the day watching the really cool shows with Shamu, Beluga Whales, Horny Dolphins, Alligators, Duckies, Flamingos, and water skiiers. And yes....I said Horny Dolphins. During one of the shows called "Viva!", they had to stop in the middle because apparently the dolphins were not in the particular mood of performing for us humans who pay good money to see them (OK OK...Skip and I didn't pay, but still). They had other things on their mind like a little romp in the pool sack. He, he! So, of course the guy came out and explained what was happeninig and of course we understood. (At least I'm sure the adults did). Eventually they got some of the dolphins out and continued the show which was really quite entertaining.

Shamu was great as well! She gave us a very very very welcome cold splash of her salty freezing water! And boy did it come at a great time. Walking in the middle of July in San Antonio is quite the feat with the sun blazing on you. Anyway, the show was great! I don't think I have ever seen a whale (except for dolphins, which I learned that day were whales as well). It's amazing how high something so friggin heavy can jump! And the lady rode some of the whales, jumped off their noses, gave them hugs, pet their tongues (I'm assuming they must like this, honestly I don't like anybody petting my tongue.) If you stop and think about it....if Shamu is mighty hungry one day...what's to stop her from swallowing one of the trainers? LOL! I would! Little appetizers.

The great thing about this park is that unlike many other theme parks, this one offers a very GOOD priced all you can eat buffet with REAL BBQ. It was about $12 and it had all you can drink soda and water (try to get that throughout the park!), and a variety of scrumptious food like Pulled Pork, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, BBQ chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob, salad, baked beans, and PUDDING! So, of course Skip and I feasted there for a while and then sloshed around till the next show. By the time we saw the last show we wanted to see, we were about to go to the water park part of Sea World because I wanted to float through the lazy river to show off my bathing suit that took me so very long to find. Well....apparently so did everyone else. The water park was full to capacity so I didn't really feel like waiting stating that "I have a pool that is not peed in and can float happily in there instead". So, we went back to the hotel where we recuperated from walking in the heat so much.

The next day we went to the Riverwalk downtown and walked all over wherever there was a path. We took our obligatory Alamo picture and enjoyed the shade of the nice cool walk. I took lots of pictures of course, which are in the slideshow I will put up as soon as I'm done here. As we strolled the Riverwalk, we also dined in an Italian restaurant where they had a mariachi band singing. After that, we headed home. :)

I do miss the king size bed that we had at the hotel. Oh well. I did have a lot of fun though. If anybody comes to visit from out of town, hopefully we can make it out there again. If anybody would like to babysit Kaitlyn during that time it would be even better so I can go on a roller coaster again!!! LOL!

Till next time here is the slideshow!!!!!

-------

Happy Fourth of July!!

Hi everyone,

It's been a while, but as you can imagine I've been on busy overdrive. As usual I suppose. I'm hoping things will wind down a bit at work so I can have more time to get ready for the little bugger. That and it's just darned hard working with this kid taking up all this space, sleeping on my lungs, making my feet look like potatoes, etc. :) Many of you have been asking for the pictures of the Shower back in May. For your patience, I have uploaded them and they should be visible to your right in a nice little section of it's own.----------->
Please let me know if you have trouble seeing it. I will work on the video later on when I actually have time to do so. That might take a while. Ha, ha, ha! Here is a sample of Kat's typical day (no details...):

Get up and go to work (do the horrible drive)

Try to survive the day without quitting

Attempt the horrible drive again

Come home and contemplate cooking/eating but end up passing out on the couch

Wake up eat and fall asleep again...

Wake up in the middle of the night all uncomfortable and confused as to why in the hell am I doing this again?

Fall back asleep if not surfing the web and when I do fall asleep almost flinging the cell phone whose alarm is attempting to wake me up.

Of course then there are days where I stay late at work because I need to make up the time I took for medical issues.....Birth Classes....running errands...etc.

So...now you know why I'm always unavailable. It's probably because I'm taking what little free time I have to say hello to my husband before I fall asleep in mid-sentence. Ha ha ha!

Anyway, it all hasn't been bad. I had a very nice baby shower thrown for me at work. Here is a link to those pictures:

Kat's Baby Shower thrown by EAG Services!!!

Got some very nice items and had a lot of fun sharing time with my co-workers playing games that were not embarrassing! I was very happy about that. Plus the food was really good, as always!

So...as of today...I have ONE MONTH TILL MY DUE DATE!!! TICK TICK TICK TICK. Time to place your bets as to when this kid will really come! Next week I get my 36 week check up and will be seeing my midwife every week from here on. She will do my Strep B culture test, take a look at my Elvis in the Pelvis and all the other normal stuff. I'm slowly getting my bag together for my trip to the Birth Center. Luckily I don't need too much since they let you go home pretty fast once the baby is born and everyone is happy and healthy. This week I will probably think about what music and candles and stuff I want for motivation. I joked with Skip and said that the picture I was thinking of having as my focal point was a nice piece of Medium Rare beef...preferably from El Gaucho in Aruba. Hee, hee! I know...weird, sick, demented...but by gosh, I like it!

The nursery is coming along as well. Skip and Mike painted the room last week and I helped put finishing touches, like painting the windowsill. (I wanted to paint SOMETHING!) Skip then built the crib (I ordered the mattress the other day, should be here next week!) and moved the dresser into the room. As I've started to put stuff away, I'm thinking I might want to start saving for the dresser hutch. It's just so friggin expensive! But I'd like the storage. I also can't wait to get my glider. I'm considering getting the dang thing with the gift certificate I got from work. Hopefully I can keep putting stuff together the next few weeks. I'm not too much in a rush, just want the room not to look messy! It's not like she's gonna be going there very soon! LOL! She will be with me in our room for a bit.

Anyway, I've ranted enough for now. I'm sleepy and my potatoes....I mean....feet hurt. I have a long day tomorrow. I'm just happy Skip is driving! I'm going to Little Derek's first BURFDAYYY! Woo hoo! (For those of you who don't know, that is Tatiana's adorable little son!). Anyway, she lives in College Station which is like 2 hours away from me. Guess it's training for next week when we go to San Antonio for the weekend! LOL! Let's see how many times I stop to pee!

Till next time! Keep reading! And hope you all continue to have a great HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!

Luv,
Kat

Kaitlyn's Preview!!!

Hi guys and gals!

Here is a little preview of Kaitlyn!!! I got to take her to one of my prenatal appointments. She was soooo excited. :) She got to meet Jackie, my midwife, and see where Kaitlyn was going to be born. She said it was like a little Bed and Breakfast, which made me laugh, but yeah, I guess so. While I was there Jackie took my blood to check my hemoglobin and glucose and whatnot. At first glance, it looked like my glucose was borderline high so I had to wait a few days to see if I had to take the 3 hour test. Turns out that I have to take the dang test. (Which I will be going to in a little while actually....and I'm so hungry!). She also said I was anemic so I have to take some lovely iron supplements. Good news is that it hasn't affected my bowels. Yaaay! Hee hee. I've actually been really lucky! I usually suffer from plumbing clogs (to put it nicely) and so far it hasn't been a problem (I'm knocking on wood). Anyway, then mom got to hear the heartbeat and got all teary eyed. We also got to gab about my birth with Mom and how fast it was for her (knocking on wood again). It was really nice.

Of course she took pictures and I wanted to share some of them. That's me looking all constipated. I really am not, I swear. I don't know why I was making that weird face, but my face has a mind of it's own so I usually just go with the flow. Not the most flattering pose, I know. Thanks Mom. LOL.That's the last size of Jelly Reese, no more Jelly Babies after that one. I know some of you are freaked out by the little Jelly Babies.....so here is the collection of Jellies below for your enjoyment. Hee hee hee. They are very cold children so they like to huddle together. :) I don't blame them...being made of ballistics gel probably isn't the most warming sensation. I wonder if this is how Mythbuster babies are made....Hmmmmm...

So anyway, then I got to take Mom to work where I gave her an office and put her to some slave baby shower duty. LOL! She helped make the candle favors we gave out and did a GRRRRREAT job! And she learned a new craft so she was very happy. I even got to show her off and everyone was very friendly and nice to her as they always are.

And thus concludes another chapter of Kat's Dayz. Look for more updates, I haven't even gotten to the shower part, so that will probably be coming next if I don't get distracted again.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Welcome Ava Rose and Mars!!!

Hello my people!

Lot's has been going on these past few weeks! I'm going to divide it in a few sections so it's not so overwhelming to write it all at once. :) In this edition I would love to welcome two new additions to the world. These are my friend's babies which were born these past few weeks!

In her Earthly debut we first have Ava Rose Findley, who is the daughter of my good friend Amy Laura Findley whom I met at different Meetup groups and who has helped me a great deal in many different areas of my life

Mommy and Ava together/Ava staring at a family friend

She is as cute as a button and very alert! I loved holding her and laughed when she made the attempt to attack my boob! That's when I quickly gave her back to her mom! Ha ha ha!

Our next addition is actually a friend of both Amy and me. Her name is Jennifer and she had her little boy just last week!!! His name is Mars Cowser and he is just the cutest little boy! I can't wait to meet him in person! We are all going to have such a great time raising our kids! Here are a few pics of little Mars:

Mars tired after a long trip out/Getting ready for the ride home!

I'm also happy to report that both sets of parents are doing well and just adoring their new kiddies. They are both first time parents. :) Just like moi! Kaitlyn's gonna have a lot of fun playing with her new friends! Well...I have to get back to work, so I will leave for now. But...

WELCOME LITTLE ONES!!! But today I managed to have a really good time with Mya and my walking group. We participated in the Second Annual Trot for Spot hosted by the Animal Alliance of Galveston County. AAGC supports the community by providing low cost spay & neuter surgeries. 100% of the money you raise goes to programs to end pet overpopulation in our area. Very good cause! Here are some pictures of the event:

The Pit Bull is Mya's boyfriend, Villain. He's a sweetheart. He got a way a few times, it was quite funny. Probably not for Amanda (his owner), but there were many people there to catch him! I'm also adding a nice little slideshow with more pics. They are also in my Picasa Album. I think Mya had a good time. She got to walk, bark at other doggies, jumped over some bars in the obstacle course and I got her some treats which she is now protecting from Jack and whoever walks by her. Also found that there is a boutique for doggies with cute clothes so I will go there sometime this week. I want to see if I can find a shirt for her for the baby shower that would be cute. Yes I dress my dog...sue me. :)

Speaking of dressing my dog, last night after I bathed and gave her a haircut I sewed a bandana for her! Yup I sewed! She's actually wearing it in the pics. To the right you will see the actual bandana I made...it's a little sloppy but give me a break I don't normally sew! Then on the left you will see her proudly modeling my little creation. Now that I kind of know what to do, I will make her a few more. It's neat cuz I used some fringe I had bought eons ago and used velcro! Very nice if I say so myself. I guess after sewing Skip's patches, I did not have my fill. It was fun although frustrating at times since I'm a novice. Wish I could go in a straight line...Practice I suppose.

Anyway, we had a very nice time. :) Tomorrow I host my first meeting in my Puerto Rican culture group. We are going to a "rican" restaurant in town and I'm going to show them what we eat. Hopefully it will be good! I will post again tomorrow with that outcome! Till then....don't forget to spay and neuter your pets!

Ulcers, Colds, Pregnancy...Oh My!

Ok....so....just when the light is shining in the horizon, a big dark cloud appears. You would think there was one pill to cure them all.....Oh well. I get to go back in a month. Joy.... She did give me a very nice hug though....so I suppose that made it feel a little better. :) Kind of like a band aid. Hee hee...

In other news...today apparently is my day. YES...it's Professional Administrative Day. I was very delighted to be at work today (amid the stupid cold that's developing), and have Jennifer (my co-worker/friend) bake a bunch of very delicious cupcakes. I'm telling you, she's the sweetest thing! And the exec team got me a really nice basket of chocolate goodies! So...this is my blog. I figured I'd try it out and keep everyone updated on what's going on over here. Since I'm under the weather, what better time than now?

So things have been going pretty well here, in muggy Texas. You can tell that Summer is right around the corner....however not hot enough to warm the pool! Come on sun, do your thing!! I really want to get into that pool and get some exercise. It's nice to walk but I have found that to be a bit difficult with my schedule and whatnot. Plus you feel weightless in the pool so that's an extra plus!

Baby Reese is doing well. Skip and I went to the midwife today and I measure 24 cm and am at 25 weeks. She has a good strong heartbeat and was actually trying to flick the heart monitor thingie away. It was funny really. Jackie, my midwife, had quite a laugh. Next time I go there I get to drink my lovley glucose drink to test for gestational diabetes. Cheers to me! Sad part was that she couldn't help me with my ulcer problem. But I have an appointment tomorrow to hopefully fix that. It's quite painful really...as ulcers probably are.

Sunday, Skip will be heading off to his boat to do a tour for a month. I will be without a hubby but at least I have Jack and Mya to keep me company. Also my family will be visiting for my baby shower at the end of the month. I'm really quite excited!!! I haven't seen them all in so long! AND Skip's Mom and Grandma will be here too! :) How cool is that? I'm counting the days!

Anyway, Skip has been doing a great job with the landscaping.
